Facts About The Lake |
Welcome to Carroll County's most up-to-date
information
on the Carroll County Lake Project
Here's a brief overview about the LAKE PROJECT:
• The Lake will be approximately 977 acres and will be
located in the Leach Community in the center of our county.
Carroll County is fortunate to have this new recreation
facility coming to the area, it is sure to be a big draw to
boaters, fishers and water enthusiasts for many miles
around.
• All possible sites in the county were explored, the
Reedy Creek site was the only one that would be
approved by the Army Corps of Engineers.
• The Lake will be larger and deeper than Beech Lake
in Lexington. 50 foot deep at levee with an average of 20 foot.
• The cost will be approximately $9.7 million, one third
of this will come from the wheel tax of $10 from within
our county and the remainder from State & Federal monies.
• Cost to each tax payer is only about 3 cents per day, a very
small amount for the economic impact it will impart.
• Annual revenue is expected to be $1.5 million after the
lake gets established and people start using the facility.
• The Lake will have areas designated for fishing only, this
will be a welcomed exclusion and eliminate
skiing and
other water sports from fishing areas.
• Lake will open in 2005-2006 if weather permits the scheduled
construction procedures and will
flood 9.2 miles of
Reedy Creek and it's small tributaries.
• The Lake will be easily accessible from U.S. Hwy. 70
and only 20 minutes from I-40.
