The Carroll County Aquatic Team opened its 2002 summer season with three swim meets in June.  CCAT traveled to Murray, KY on Friday, June 14, then hosted a meet against Calvert City (Kentucky) Country Club at Bethel College's Gaines Pool on Saturday, June 22, before competing in Marion, KY, on Tues. the 25th.  CCAT swimmers claimed 41 first place finishes in the individual events and won 16 relays in the three meets.
   In the Girls 5-6 age division, Hannah Harris won two freestyle and two backstroke races and added one first place in a breaststroke and butterfly event as well, while Jenny-Lyn Caterina swam to third place finishes in the backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke.
   The Girls 7-8 age group was led by Kelsey Carr, who finished first in four events (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly) and also earned three second place ribbons.  Other high placers in this age group were Kayla Kirkland (third in backstroke and fourth in the individual medley); Candice Ridley (second in the freestyle and fourth in the medley); Allison McMahan (second in the butterfly and fourth in the breaststroke); Haley Collins (fourth in the freestyle and the butterfly); and Hannah Rorer (fifth in the backstroke and the freestyle).
   Austin Petering picked up five first-place ribbons in the Boys 7-8 division, while Samantha Verdell collected first in eleven events and second place in four others for the 9-10 Girls.  Crystal Daub added a second place finish in the freestyle and two third places, Megan Ellis swam to fourth place in the individual medley and Alexa Cooper was fourth in the butterfly, Conor Scruton placed the 9-10 Boys, winning six races and placing second in eight others.  Patrick Harris was second in the freestyle and the breaststroke and also placed third in three events.  Cody Prince finished fourth in the backstroke, the breaststroke and the butterfly.
   Hannah Scruton led Girls 11-12 by winning three events and placing second in three others.  Chloe Cunningham added a second place in the backstroke and two third place finishes, while Sarah Sutherby picked up fifth place in the individual medley.  In the Boys 11-12 division, Josh Rich swam to first in the freestyle, the breaststroke and the butterfly.  Shane McFadden had four second-place finishes and Aaron Hoskins earned a second place in the backstroke and in the breaststroke.
   Chase Mitchell was the top CCAT swimmer in the Boys 13-14 category, winning five races and adding four second-place ribbons.  Nathan Hacker finished second in four events and Traven Parkhill took fourth place in three races.  Desiree Petering was second in the Girls 13-14 100-Meter Freestyle and swam to second place in two other events.
   Shante Hacker took first place in the butterfly and was second in five other events for the Girls 15-Over, while Ashley Martin finished fourth in four events.
   The Carroll County Aquatic Team will host meets at Gaines Pool in July and will be sighning up swimmers ages 5 to 18 for the 2002-2003 winter season later this year.  Watch for announcements in October and come swim with the CCAT.
